In the past, only movie stars felt concerned with how their teeth appeared to others. People without a highly public position figured they just had to live with less-than-perfect teeth. Today, dental veneers are available to anyone and they can disguise a wide range of cosmetic issues. The most common ones include:
- A large gap between two teeth
- Stained or discolored teeth
- Chips and cracks
- Unusual shape of a tooth
- Improper alignment
If you have an issue that prevents you from smiling confidently, dental veneers could be the ideal cosmetic enhancement.
The Process of Receiving Dental Veneers
A veneer is an ultra-thin piece of ceramic that attaches to your front tooth surface to disguise your minor imperfection. Dr. James Phelan matches your new veneer to the shade of your teeth so no one can tell that you had cosmetic dental work performed. He then takes an impression of your tooth and submits it to our laboratory for processing.
Our dental receptionist will contact you when your veneer comes back from the laboratory to come in for your second appointment. At that time, Dr. Phelan may remove less than one-quarter of a millimeter of tooth enamel to ensure that the veneer fits properly on your tooth. Next, he places an adhesive material on the exterior of your tooth and sets the veneer on top of it. For the last step, he shines a curing light on the tooth so the adhesive agent hardens and the veneer stays in place. The process is simple and painless.
